7 Easy Incredible Science Experiments For Kids.
MY 8 YEAR OLD SON IS VERY MUCH INTERESTED IN DOING SCIENCE EXPERIMENTS. AS A MOTHER IT IS MY DUTY TO HELP HIM EXPLORE WHAT HE WISHES. SO I DO HELP HIM WHEN EVER HE WANTED TO DO EXPERIMENTS. HERE ARE 10 INCREDIBLE SCIENCE EXPERIMENTS WE DID TOGETHER AND HAD FUN.
I am some one who not always stick into school syllabus. While doing school works I wanted my boys to explore the world , gain some knowledge from environment, from sky, how the planets work, sun is made of what , so to my surprise I got a book published by https://www.hinkler.com.au/ when he was just 4, The book's name was '365 incredible science experiments' I was so happy to get that in Srilanka it was very very useful for him.
That book has separated into few categories, they are Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Geology, physics, and Weather. So I find easy to do according to the heading , my son always explore on Astronomy, as he likes about planets. I always beside him when ever he ask to do .It's better to collect and give those easily findable things and make them smile when they feel achieved.

- One large balloon
- Modeling clay
- Wire
- String
- Tape
- Plastic bottle
- Straw
- Make a U-turn bend in the middle of a long piece of wire so it can rest in the top of the plastic bottle and still have either end line horizontal.
- Blow up a large balloon as big as possible and attach it to one end of the wire.
- Make two round balls with the modelling clay One about the size of a ping pong ball(Earth) and the other a little smaller in size than a small marble(moon).
- Slide the straw through the middle of the larger ball and attach the straw to the end of the wire opposite to the balloon by sliding it over some of the wire. The straw should be titled on approximately at 45 degree angle.
- Attach another piece of wire approximately 6cm in length to the end of the straw .If necessary, secure with tape.
- slide the smaller ball on to the end of this wire and bend the wire so the smaller ball is about 3cm from earth.
- Very gently give the wire resting in the soda container a push.
- As this is happening ,very gently give the smaller ball a push.

Breathing plants
How do plants obtain nutrients from the soil?
- Plastic bottles
- Flower with stem attached
- Water
- Small amount of modelling clay
- Drinking straw
- Fill the bottle three quarters full with water.
- Wrap the clay around the stem of the flower.
- Place the flower in the bottle. Use the clay to seal and close the mouth of the bottle tightly.
- Carefully push the straw through the clay. Do not let the straw touch the water. Make sure the clay is still sealed tightly around the straw and there are no leaks.
- Check that the straw is not touching the water. Stand in front of a mirror and suck on the straw.
Did you know?
Plants are like straws. In their leaves are tiny little pores or holes, so tiny that you cannot see them without magnification. These pores are used by plants to breath air. When you are sucking on the straw and removing the air from the bottle, the pores in the plant are breathing air into the bottle. pretty clever!

Making starch.
Separate a compound ,called starch, from potatoes
- 5 large potatoes
- Grater
- Bowl
- Water
- Sieve
- Peel the potatoes. Grate them into a bowl.
- Fill the bowl with water to cover the potatoes. Squeeze the potato with your fingers for several minutes. Leave for half an hour. Repeat the squeezing.
- Take the potato out the bowl by pouring the mixture through a drive and catching the cloudy water in a bowl.
- Let the cloudy water dry up in a sunny place. What happens?

Green slime
Making green slime.
- Wood glue
- Borax powder
- Green food colouring
- Water
- In a container, mix together one tablespoon of glue, one tablespoon of water and one drop of green food coloring.
- In a separate container, dissolve one teaspoon of borax powder in one tablespoon of water. Borax powder is poisonous-wash your hands after touching it or your slime!
- Pour borax solution into your glue mixture. mix with your fingers - a 'slime' should form instantly!
- Store in a air tight container.

- Box about 50cm in high
- Sunny window
- Water
- Early on a clear and bright sunny morning, set up the box about 3.5m away from a window with strong sunlight.
- Fill the glass with water and place it on the box.
- Look down on the floor for the rainbow 🌈.move the paper around on the floor to capture the rainbow. what colors can you see? how long will this rainbow last ?

Balloon Rocket
3,2,1 blast off!!!!!!
- 2 paper or plastic drinking cups
- Scissors
- Tape
- Long balloon
- Round balloon.
- Carefully cut out the bottoms of two paper or plastic cups and sit one of the cups inside the other.
- Partly blow up the long balloon. Hold closed but do not tie.
- Slide the drinking cups over the United end of the balloon.
- Fold the United end of the balloon over the side of the cup and tape it down firmly so air cannot escape.
- Place the round balloon inside the cups and blow up the balloon.
- Hold the end of the round balloon closed but do not tie.
- Hold the rocket so it is facing the sky.
- Unstick the long balloon's end.
- Let go of the round balloon.
